CONGRATULATIONS DOROTHY CALDWELL ON YOUR NEW WORLD RECORD!
Dorothy has cemented her place in the Guinness hall of fame as the world's oldest rally navigator at 98. She guided son Alastair to 7th place overall in the Rally Round Haka Classic event, a timed regularity rally taking in the full length of New Zealand's islands.
Dorothy is no stranger to motorsport, she has navigated on many rallies around the world for her son Alastair Caldwell. That name will ring a bell if you know your F1 history. Dorothy is a New Zealand native but Alastair's love of motorsport brought him to the UK where he worked his way up from cleaner, to mechanic, to team boss for the Mclaren Formula One team.
At 98 Dorothy is more than entitled to a bit of comfort, her choice for this rally? Alastair's 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III. Earlier this year at Goodwood Alastair told me how much he was looking forward to the event "Mum's amazing" he said "People think she just sits there and enjoys the view but no, she reads the road book, pulls the trip counter and works out the timings." Well done Dorothy! You can read more in the New Zealand Herald article here: www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11737872
