Conversation Thread: How do you make a commute more enjoyable?

Whether your commute is five minutes or two hours, how do you pass the time?

I recently just joined the beautiful, mechanical ballet that is commuting, and I can't help but wonder how the hell people actually stay focused while driving in bumper to bumper traffic for several miles on end. I lose focus relatively quickly, so this doesn't seem like it's the life for me in the long run, but there has to be a way to survive it somehow right? Surely there are some of you that actively commute from location to location, and there are some of you that have much more experience in the art of commuting then I do, so my question is, how do you survive it?

I'm sure there are podcasts or some other things that I could get into to avoid falling asleep in the left lane at 0 miles an hour. The problem with podcasts are that I haven't really found any that have interested me, which is another reason why I posed this question, because I'm sure there are others out there besides myself that deal with this problem as well. Maybe there's a ritual or like some sort of game that could be played while your hands are firmly on the wheel that could help distract you until you arrive at your final destination whether that is work or home.

Do you just seek your way through the radio and hope that you'll find something that you like or some sort of talk show host that will keep you entertained for hours on end during the week? I need your tactics. So my question to you, nay, my request is that you put anything that you can do to help me survive commuting in the comments below.

    • I like that idea, but a Harrier jump jet would be faster and be able to land at work easier, no rotors to shrike. Also the fact it can carry a handy amount of firepower would make the commute even easier. You’d never have to argue over that parking...

  • Music, and also doing it on the motorbike occasionally. My commute from my house to DriveTribe Towers is 35 miles each way - it takes 1hr 45 in the car, or 45 minutes on motorbike.
