Corvette engineers arrested for street racing the new C8
The mid-engined Corvette C8 has been making its rounds on the internet for just over a year now and we’re excited for its arrival in right-hand drive markets. It’s also quick, with 0-60mph times between 2.9-3 seconds, depending if you get the Z51 package or not. This is great in the right place, but not so much on you know, a public road.
According to a report from Automobile Magazine, two GM employees were arrested and imprisoned for racing brand new C8’s in Bowling Green, Kentucky; this is where the Corvette is built, and where the Corvette Museum is. So how fast were these absolute mad lads going? Well, they were going at least 100mph...on a road with a 55mph speed limit.
I say at least 100mph, one was travelling at 100mph and the other doing 120mph! Following the arrest, GM recovered the C8 test cars from an impound. There’s no word on if the enthusiastic engineers still work at the factory but, they probably should be suspended or fired.
If I were a GM higher up, I’d be quite embarrassed as this doesn’t look good for Corvette or GM.
However, if you want a safe and legal thrill with a Corvette, you can buy this excellent Lego Technic kit of the crazy C7 ZR1. It’ll be a fun build and perhaps most importantly, it’s orange.
