Could this be the World's worst '4X4'?
It's such a shame and a shock that the same company who produced the rugged Jimny, also produced this monstrosity. When this passes people on the street, you can hear children crying just by the sight of it. Is it a sports SUV? Is it a 4x4 machine? Is it a hairdresser's car? Who knows...
When the Suzuki X-90 was new, it was for sale for only £11,300 which for a brand new car from a reputable brand is a good price right? Suzuki boasted it's 4x4 capabilities, but maybe they shouldn't have. Just by looking at the X-90 you can tell that it's not going to be the best 4x4. It certainly isn't. Not many 4x4's can only carry 2 people.
I understand that this is a quirky car that maybe shouldn't be taken as seriously but that's no excuse for Suzuki to build a car of this degree of ugliness. From various user reviews I have read about the X-90 I have gathered that none of them have driven it offroad. It seems to just be 'surfer dude' wannabes in Cornwall who own them. You know the kind, middle ages men with long hair, wearing a T-shirt with a surfboard on it who say "Dude".
The interior is incredibly basic. You get power steering, heating and all that as standard but even the radio is extra. This is understandable for such a low price tag but you would have thought that Suzuki would include one? The blue wave pattern on the seats just says it all really. The X-90 is powered by a 1.6L engine producing a whopping 95 bhp. It weighed just 1,100kg which I guess adds to the 'sports' element.
The Suzuki X-90 debuted at the Tokyo motor show in 1993 as a concept car and eventually made it into production in 1995. They managed to sell 1,348 cars in Japan, 7,205 in USA and Australia received just over 400. Over it's production, the US received over half of all produced. By mid 1997 the price dropped by 25%. No surprise there.
This seems to be what the Americans did to the X-90. I guess it improves it a bit... I would just get a Jimny. You're always safe with a Jimny.
