Anthony Jannarelly and Frederic Juillot always dreamed of creating a classic sports car that would evoke the thrill of 60s open-top driving. So, that's exactly what they did. Harnessing the design skills of Jannarelly (who previously designed the Lykan HyperSport), the duo launched Jannarelly Automotive last year to great acclaim, with their first model, the Design-1.

Since then, Jannarelly have been developing further options to enhance the base design. Based on a tubular space-frame chassis and carbon fibre body, the roofless original now has a fighter pilot style front-hinged canopy, with windows attached to the roof delivering a futuristic alternative to a gullwing opening.

Utilising the principle of retro-inspired styling, fused with thoroughly modern technology, the Design-1 has a mid-mounted, Nissan sourced 3.5 liter V6, combined with a 6 speed manual gearbox that is projected to deliver 0-60mph performance in approx 4 seconds.

If you haven't placed your order already, then circa £45k will get you the basic launch edition car, with extras such as the hardtop and windscreen package at additional cost.

  • Wow, looks great! I was expecting it to cost a bit more than £45k. I mean, I haven't got £45k, but if I did it seems like a very good price.

  • I absolutely love that they DID NOT go with giant wheels and elastic-band profile tires. Of course, the rest is stunning too. Bravo!

  • Car design is a bit like wine... various subtle 'tastes' blending together. In this case, I find a heavy bouquet of late '90s Viper, a hint of Corvette, and an aftertaste of Shelby Cobra 427. Not completely certain they blend enough to create a completely satisfying taste... though the paint is nice.
