CREATOR SHOWCASE - photographer benedict redgrove
CREATOR SHOWCASE HIGHLIGHTS THE MOST EXCITING NEW D_TRB TALENT AT THE CROSSROADS OF PERFORMANCE, CULTURE + DESIGN
They say, 'never meet your heroes', but for photographer Benedict Redgrove, the opposite is true. Memories of being a small child and witnessing the first moon landings on a flickery black and white TV have been replaced with the reality of photographing the most inspiring and iconic designs man has ever created.
'NASA - Past and Present Dreams of the Future', is a nine year study of the objects designed and engineered by NASA as part of their space programme and illustrates in jaw-dropping detail the level of dedication and skill it takes to create these incredible objects.
As Benedict says, 'Standing next to Atlantis for the first time, I had what can only be described as a semi-religious experience. It was my childhood dreams in front of me and it did not disappoint'.
Capturing these craft and equipment in high detail and then displaying them, often at larger than life size, affords the viewer the opportunity to ponder on the enormity of what has been achieved - the shuttle Atlantis, for instance, has travelled more than 125 million miles and experienced temperatures in excess of 1650 degrees centigrade in its lifetime.
With two further years of shooting remaining, the project will come to an end with the launch of NASA SLS (Space Launch System), but until then there are many more objects to shoot, with the project being exhibited and published in 2018/19.
In the meantime, if you want to see more of Benedict's stunning images, check out his gallery of the new Aston Martin AM-RB 001 hypercar elsewhere on The Cut.
