In addition to being one of the worst in recent decades, the Covid-19 pandemic is also creating significant economic problems for many companies, including many car brand. The news has just arrived that Cupra, due to financial constraints, will be forced to skip participation in the 2020 WTCR season.
The drivers who were supposed to drive the new Leon Competition remained momentarily without engagement and the development of the car itself is put at risk by this lack of participation. It is still in doubt whether the Spanish team will run at least in ETCR with Leon's electric model.
The WTCR members, due to the absence of the Spanish team, drop to 14 and this represents a negative record that was not recorded since the 2017 season of the WTCC. It is hoped that this event will not trigger a dangerous domino effect that will induce other teams to give up on the championship.
