Danke Germany - Jaguar I-Pace won "German Car of the Year" award

It was the first time, that the "German Car of the Year" (GCOTY) title has been awarded. Out of 59 cars, 12 independent motoring journalists voted for their favourite. The all-electric Jaguar I-Pace won and proved once more that the Germans love the Brits.

After the evaluation of design, performance, ride, handling, future viability and general relevance of each model on the road and at the Bilster Berg circuit in Germany, five nominees were left for the final decision.

You can see in the video, which cars made it to the finals:

After receiving the award, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Prof. Dr. Ralf Speth said, "We are extremely proud to receive this honour from the German media for our first fully electric vehicle, the Jaguar I-Pace. To get such an award in the homeland of premium brands is very precious."

It is not surprising that German car companies are high ranked as well. Second place was reached by the Audi A6, while the Volkswagen Touareg came third.

But the electric SUV from Jaguar convinced the jurors with the fact that "it is not only the first premium EV from an established manufacturer, it also makes uncompromising use of the advantages of an EV architecture. Its performance is impressive, and its design and practicality stand out (…)." said GCOTY spokesman of jury member Jens Meiners.
