Days of knights and beautiful ladies. Very old retro cars and old tractor 1930
A story about how to spend your magnificent medieval day in Belarus.
All photos and video are mine
July 20 and 21, 2019 in Belarus was the grand festival Sunday in Grodno, which promised to be even bigger, funnier and more interesting. Unique Japanese cars had to come and arrange a Japanese show ... But by coincidence, I did not get there.
Strange cars, strange owners and the one winner - handmade supercar Laura! This car was never seen before!
These days I came to the festival in honor of the Battle of Grunwald in the village of Dudutki. This is a large-scale event with large knightly battles on horses, competitions of archers, battles on swords and medieval dances with feasts. But there was for all the petrol head and a small piece of paradise. It is about him, I will tell more ...
Among the beautiful natural landscapes and peacock tails, there were no less excellent representatives of vintage cars, motorcycles and a tractor. And a collection of miniature retro cars, which I also have :) There is no better place than a garage for an exhibition of such a collection!
I need to start with the most impressive and interesting - with a vintage tractor. Because it is really huge and created specifically for Jeremy Clarkson. It is much more than the usual conventional agricultural machinery.
SHTZ 15\30 Soviet tractor 1935
This tractor, which is very simple in its technical design, was easily operated by both a man and a woman, and during the war, mostly women only.
The slogan of the first women's tractor brigade of the Stakhanov movement (movement for overfulfilment of the work plan) was invented by the first woman-tractor driver “One hundred thousand girlfriends to the tractor!” in 1938.
This tractor was absolutely indispensable and so widespread that its only competitor was a truck for transportation. The traditional Soviet tractor is a prototype of the American Mc Cormic International 15/30, produced by International Harvester from 1921 to 1934. The Soviet tractor was even left with the American spelling of the index through a fraction.
STZ 15/30 is made entirely of metal, cast iron. Even the seat is made of metal. The wheels do not have rubber, which is so familiar to our asphalt pavements, they are made with metal lugs and it is believed that the tractor should not leave the field and will not go on roads.
The first tractor left the gates of the factory shop on June 17, 1930, at 15 o'clock in the afternoon. The first tractors were originally produced in Stalingrad. The tractor that I spotted is a copy of the Kharkov plant. 144 tractors were manufactured daily in Stalingrad. They were produced before 1950, and there were only 390500 copies.
The tractor engine developed a power of 31.5 horsepower, was a four-cylinder carburettor. The fuel for it was not gasoline, but kerosene. What people lit up with their homes gave life to the tractor. The ignition was from Magneto, like in many cars of the old time. But unlike its contemporaries, the engine of this tractor had a full-fledged oil pump, oil and air filters, which significantly extended its service life. Its speed reaches 3.5-7.4 km / h. Weight 3000 kg.
The tractor worked with two and three-body plows, as well as other agricultural equipment, including mechanized ones. This is a machine of the era of industrialization, self-sacrificing work and human faith in a bright future.
For its simplicity, a very working purpose, reliability and large size, this tractor should appeal to Jeremy Clarkson, who is preparing for us a release about pushing national wealth - plants. Plants can replace everything. And this is a more humane and profitable type of human interaction with nature.

Also there were very beautiful people in old clothes. And me :) On the first day I thought that the car VW kafer Herbie vintage enough for the festival. But on the second day I decided to dress like a princess. The skirt was created by me! :)
The most friendly person I have ever met in my life. This car is the most common and numerous, the most cult and favorite. The hero of films and cartoons, family scenes and a symbol of colourful dreams and happy life.
Horch 830 BL 1935-1940
Luxury limousine, designed for the highest elite was created in Germany by August Horch. August is the most famous car magnate who owned three plants. He also founded an enterprise in Zwickau called Audi - which translated from German into Latin means “Horch” - “listen”.
At the main Berlin Motor Show in Germany, a new series of models of the 830 was introduced in 1933, which became the first car in Europe with a V-shaped 8-cylinder engine.
In 1935, machines with the BL index appeared, denoting the wheelbase extended from 3200 to 3500 mm.
The limousine body was considered one of the most popular on the market of expensive cars of the 30s. The limousine has a high closed body with three rows of seats. The driver’s cab will be separated from the front passenger by a glass partition, as if separating the worlds, a narrow little front seat from the backroom of the baroque room. For the carriage of baggage served as a folding grille on the outside of the rear bumper.
The front sofa and door cards were covered with leather, and the lining of the rear seats, doors and other surfaces of the passenger room served as expensive cloth. Mostly green.
The maximum speed of 125 km / h. Weight 1950 kg. It was the most expensive car in the USSR, which went as a trophy from Germany after the war.
A little more about the fest
At the festival there were many thematic areas. Forges, with the ability to forge a horseshoe for good luck (I made myself one! :) . The art of straw weaving, woodworking, beekeeping, weaving, felting, baking and much more. You could create your own little armor for a knight and a flint arrow, as ancient people did. And there was also the opportunity to taste the moonshine according to old recipes. Of course, I did not do it :) Moonshine is stronger than vodka. In the same place, mead and sbiten were sold and tasted for free. Sbiten is a drink on medicinal herbs, but it can be alcoholic. Mead has a secret. This drink on pure honey can be drunk infinitely a lot and feel completely sober and speak clearly, but it will be impossible to get up. Legs refuse to obey. Mead acts on the legs.
The most interesting thing was to find out the fate of the fortune-teller on the cards and ask questions to the local rune wizard. It turns out all will be good with me. I was happy
BA 20. Armored as a knight car
This car can be called a symbol of the festival. A knight in armour could be armed with a combat machine gun and take part in battle. The four-cylinder four-stroke engine M-1, which developed a power of 50 hp. The capacity of the fuel tanks was 70 liters, the range on the highway was 350 km. A three-stage gearbox (three speeds forward and one speed back) allowed the highway to reach a speed of 90 km / h, on rough terrain an average speed of 36 km / h.
Armored car could afford a radio station. But the main lead there would be you. It was mounted in the fighting compartment behind the driver's seat. If a radio station was installed on the car, a radio operator was entered into the composition of its crew. For the intercom, the crew of the BA-20 used a tank phone.
The landing and disembarking of the crew, which consisted of 2 people, was carried out through armored doors, which were located along the sides of the BA-20 hull, as well as through a hatch located in the roof of the machine-gun turret. For the circular view of the armored car were special viewing slits in the hull and turret, covered from the inside with special armored dampers, as well as inspection hatches in the frontal sheet, aft and doors. In addition, there was another hatch in the car located in the bottom of the BA-20. It was intended to leave the crew out of the car in the event of its drowning on the battlefield.
Definitely a car makes an impression.
Unique musical instruments of Belarus
At the festival there were also unique Belarusian musical instruments made from special tree species in a special way. They produce very ancient, distinctive sounds, comparable to the sounds of druids' music. Very beautiful. You can even listen to it, because I made a recording.
Also there were bird whistles made of clay. This is a very common toy for sale in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. I really wonder if there are such toys in England? In these whistles there are several holes, closing which turns a bird's trill. But if you add water to the whistle, then you will hear the real song of the nightingale. Record did not, but found similar on the Internet! :)
In this familiar motorcycle for Soviet people there is both reliability and external beauty. The main thing in it is the motor. The motorcycle accelerates to 90 km / h and consumes little fuel - 4 liters per 100 km. The motor hides behind itself only one single cylinder. It belongs to the push-pull system. The integral volume is 346 cm3.
On the motorcycle you can find another place for the passenger. As a disadvantage uncomfortable small hard seat, which will be just dangerous for a person of large height. And the arrangement of the steering wheel, which causes arms to bend, and not to keep straight.
A rusted motorcycle in the background may be restored in the future. But even before restoration, it looks vintage and impressive.
Created by Izhevsk Machine Building Plant from 1951 to 1958. During this period, about 500,000 copies were produced. In addition to single motorcycles, an experimental batch produced cars with side trailers.
Lovely kite in the form of a noble bird
Moskvitch 400 401
Old Soviet cars are fanned by the folk aura of honor and romance. Moskvitch - is the subject of desire for novice collectors of retro cars. Until now, it can often be found on the road, saved from time by the caring hands of motorists.
Moskvitch was the most affordable car for citizens of the USSR, in contrast to the "Victory". The task of the auto industry was this: in the shortest possible time to reach the world level and provide every (ideally) citizen of the future communist paradise with a car, which, as we know, is not a luxury, but a means of transportation.
A curious story about how the first Moskvitch became four-door. This happened for a reason! The first experimental model was a two-door - after all, the Opel Kadett K38 influenced the designer’s creative imagination
As you know, at least some significant achievements in the field of culture, industry and other significant industries in the Soviet Union at that time had to be approved by Stalin personally. During the approbation of the Moskvich-400, the leader of nations wanted to personally check the convenience of the cabin and sat in the front seat next to the driver. He looked at the dashboard, signaled, grunted ... and invited the designer, who was trembling with fear, to sit down too. He turned pale with horror, but did not fulfill the order: in order to crawl into the backseat, you would have to ask the Generalissimo to leave, and that was unthinkable. However, Stalin was in a good mood and just ordered to make it “convenient for people”. And they made him after that the four-door.
"Moskvitch" has a comfortable lounge, excellent maneuverability and handling.
The Society for the Protection of Birds has tamed and domesticated some of them
These birds, unlike their other pets, could not be released into nature, because they could not adapt to harsh conditions. And now they are the sweetest friends of man.
Moskvitch 402 1956-1958
The government of the USSR gave the task of developing an absolutely new car design, and not adapting an existing one, therefore, from the old car Moskvich 401 was allowed to leave only the engine, gearbox and rear axle. Stored units also subject to modernization.
Since the MZMA team could not cope with such a large-scale task on short notice, the design team was reinforced by specialists from GAZ, ZiSa and the Moscow Motorcycle Plant.
The exterior of the American car also became the basis of the exterior of the Moskvitch, although it underwent significant changes, in particular, the elements of its design were used solutions applied later on the Volga GAZ-21, which would mean the onset of a more progressive new time through the similarity of the modernization of cars.
GAZ 21 "Volga" 10 of October 1956 - 15 of July 1970
Symbol of wealth and success. The Volga is very comfortable, it has a soft, smooth ride and a luxury lounge, where there is a lot of space. The artist Lev Yeremeyev created not only the original look in the fashion of those years, but also changed it for 14 years, throughout the release of this model. This is not a borrowing, not copying or plagiarism. This is the creation of car body according to the fashion of those years. The car do not have a single straight line, everything is curved and round. Small trimings, small strokes and characteristic steep sides with a zipper stroke on the rear wings. The ground clearance of a car with native wide tires about 19 cm, like on the SUV.
"Volga" was highly resistant to corrosion due to the special treatment of the body with phosphate coating. The quality of body painting of cars of the first and second “editions” is such that some of them do not require repainting until today.
GAZ M20 Victory
Luxury car. The golden dream of everyone. The original name of the car was rejected by Stalin himself. When they showed him the car, Joseph Vissarionovich, squinting, asked the designers: “How much is the Motherland?”. And the car was called "Victory".
On August 26, 1945, a decree of the State Defense Committee “On the restoration and development of the automotive industry” was issued, ordering the serial production of the car to begin on June 28, 1946.
When the “Victory” car was created, domestic automobile plants did not have well-established emblems, so literally every model had its own original nameplates. On the pedestal of “Victory”, the letter “M” rose, in which at the same time one could see a hint of the battlement of the wall of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin and a floating seagull - the symbol of the Volga. The letter itself pointed to the name "Molotovts" (from the beginning of the 30s to the end of the 50s, the plant bore the name of the People's Commissar V. M. Molotov). The official name of the car was recorded as GAZ-M-20 - “Molotovts, twentieth model”.
In total, until the cessation of production in 1958, 235999 GAZ-20 Victory (Pobeda) cars were produced, including 14222 cabriolets and 37492 taxis. But the story of the car is not over. Up until 1971, in Poland, under the Soviet license, a slightly modified Victory was issued under the name Warsaw. And if you believe the rumors, then in the eighties, the Chinese comrades gathered in small batches "Victory" - for themselves.
The most offensive for officials and the military was the low ceiling, which did not allow a person even of medium height to sit in a hat or cap, not to mention the monumental caps of military leaders.
Continuing the theme of time of valor and honor
Knights from different countries came to the festival with their horses to fight in a joust. The main prize is a sword forged by all the blacksmiths of the last festival with the observance of ancient artisan traditions without the use of modern technology. Beautiful ladies, knightly deeds and fun.
SMZ S-3A 1958-1970
The famous car is easily recognizable for the most classic films in Russia and Belarus "Operation Y", "The Adventures of Shurik".
A small car was a dream for boys of about ten, because in size it seemed to them to be the ideal children's toy car. But in fact, it performs an important task in helping the movement of people with disabilities.
SMZ-S3D Moto-car spread through social security agencies among people with disabilities of various categories, with the option of partial and even full payment. It was given free of charge to people with disabilities of the first group - first of all, to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, pensioners, as well as those who received a disability at work or while serving in the Armed Forces. The third group disabled could purchase it for about 20% of the cost (220 rubles), but for this it was necessary to wait in the queue for about 5-7 years.
If, prior to the injury or leg disease, the driver drove the car, but his state of health did not allow him to continue to drive a regular car, the traffic police removed all categories from his rights and marked the “moto car”. People with disabilities who did not previously have a driver's license completed special courses for driving a Moto-car, and they received a certificate of a separate category (not A, as for motorcycles, and not B, as for passenger cars), which allowed them to be managed exclusively by a “invalid.” In practice, the traffic police almost did not stop such transport to verify documents.
Car and motorcycle in one with a lot of space.
Many interesting things from the festival to look at
Popular name humpback. This one is very similar to the black ladybug.
This car has similarity with Fiat. It is small, very funny and one of the most peculiar. You want to smile when you see this car. Because of its very modest size and practically no trunk, the car, although with excellent maneuverability, was not quite suitable for rural residents. Another advantage of the car was its simplicity of design and phenomenal maintainability. Even the windshield was unified with the rear, they were of the same shape and size. The maximum speed of 100 km / h, but few people accelerated to this ... And what if it breaks?
Jeremy Clarkson made a review of ZAZ 968. In it, the engine is located like in a Porsche 911, behind, and there is something that is not even in Maybach.
Recreated protective mascot of the Knights Templar, which could be purchased.
GAZ 69 (1951-1972)
The car with the best cross in which you can feel like a real army officer. It even has a slot in a tarp under the flap - for presenting documents. At its reduced gear, the GAZ 69 could confidently drive through a swamp with a depth of 35-40 cm for more than one kilometer, picking up speed. This was due to the high-quality and well thought-out transmission and a very high-torque, low-speed engine.
Rivals in the 50s in the domestic SUV was a bit - Willys CJ-3, Land Rover Series I and Toyota BJ. It was the Soviet machine that was delivered to Indonesia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Algeria and Egypt. It is known that in all these countries, before signing a contract with GAZ for the supply of a specific batch of machines, the relevant organizations conducted comparative tests of competitors. And that means this is a very good car of its time.
This car has the nickname "goat". The main reason for this name - the specific nuances of the suspension and a relatively short wheelbase. With minimal irregularities and sudden braking, the GAZ-69 sways noticeably from the bow to the stern - the goat. The fabric roof has drawbacks: getting wet after a few hours of driving in the rain, lack of normal seals, drafts in the cabin at a speed of more than 40 km / h and low insulation.
GAZ 69 can be repaired even at the North Pole. It was originally designed to operate away from the auto repair shops, so no complicated components and assemblies were introduced into its construction. Most of the technical maintenance of the car could be performed in any home and field conditions. In the early 1950s, the GAZ-69 was the only domestic car, in the construction of which there were no large components and assemblies that had not been previously mastered by the industry for other models. Motor, transmission, brakes, suspension parts were largely unified with other machines. All for easy maintenance
GAZ 69 was able to jump with a parachute. For parachute landing, protruding parts (spare wheel, bumpers) were removed from the car, the car was immersed on a special platform and automatically landed on any type of surface. GAZ 69 was able and swim! On the basis of GAZ-69 for the needs of the engineering troops was built floating conveyor GAZ-46, better known as MAV (small floating watercraft). Amphibian was produced only five years (from 1953 to 1958). Production was stopped partly due to the fact that the production of the main model, the GAZ-69, was transferred to Ulyanovsk, and the production base of the UAZ was not ready for assembling a technologically more complex vehicle.
There were very friendly Scots
It was very fun to dance ancient dances all together. Usually it was in the round dance
GAZ 67B (1943-1953)
This GAS also has the nickname goat. Once it was made specifically for the needs of the army during the Russian-Finnish war. A light, very mobile all-terrain vehicle was required, because the conditions of warfare were difficult, these were harsh snow surfaces and difficult terrain. GAZ 67 V is an ideal variation. Basically it was invented to serve the commanding staff, but the car was also used for transporting and towing light artillery systems. The light off-road GAZ-67 was designed in a very short time — 51 days, which was a rather short period at that time.
And a very little Richard in a very large car sculpture... It was a big car model for the whole world. They did very useful things for all people. They looked the same.
