This weekend was a tricky one for anyone trying to keep abreast of Porsche’s international GT outfits. Both customer and factory teams were hard at work at Road America in the IMSA championship, while Europe hosted the latest rounds of Carrera Cup Germany and the ADAC Masters. Meanwhile, the Carrera Cup Asia headed to Australia for rounds 6 and 7 of its own single-make series.
Porsche’s 911 RSRs narrowly missed out on the podium at Road America, with the works cars finishing fourth and fifth, but there was jubilation in the GTD pro-am class where Patrick Long and Christina Nielsen drove a superb race from pole to clinch their maiden victory of the season.
In Germany’s Carrera Cup, Porsche Junior Thomas Preining took back-to-back victories for BWT Lechner Racing in rounds five and six at the Nürburgring. Preining topped a massive 43-car field made up of both Carrera Cup Deutschland and Carrera Cup Scandinavia, with championship leader Michael Ammermüller hot on his heels.
The ADAC Masters was also at the Nürburgring last weekend, with three out of the four customer 911 GT3Rs taking home points in this fiercely contested series. Porsche Young Professional Mathieu Jaminet and teammate Robert Renauer had the best of the running, finishing fifth on Sunday for Precote Herberth Motorsport.
Meanwhile, in Sydney’s Motorsport Park, Chris van der Drift managed to maintain his lead in the Carrera Cup Asia, although closest rival Philip Hamprecht has narrowed the gap to 11 points with five rounds to go.
