Denver Post Writer's Dumbass Tweet About Indy 500 Winner Got Him Fired Instantly
Wow. What a moron.
So this is about as stupid and ignorant as someone can humanly get.
Denver Post sportswriter Terry Frei had been covering sports for the DP for a long time. In fact, he is a 4 time winner of the Colorado Sportswriter Of The Year. But it looks like he won't be winning that again anytime soon. The tweet below is what he sent just moments after the Indy 500 was won by Takuma Sato, a Japanese born driver.
Now, I'm no literary genius nor do I consider myself smart in relation to most of humanity, but even I know that this tweet was not only in bad taste, but also incredibly stupid. The point isn't if this comes off as racist (which it does), but how moronic do you have to be to say something like this on twitter, the high school lunch room of all social media sites? Anything even the slightest bit inflammatory spreads like wildfire on twitter. I mean say it on FB and there's a chance (even though a smaller one) that your friends see it and that's it. But twitter? Idiot.
Now lets address the tweet itself. It's racist. Plain and simple. There's really no other way to look at it. Deciphering it, I interpret it to say, "I don't think letting an Asian person from Japan, a country we fought in WWII, win on a weekend where we honor those fallen in battle for the United States, is acceptable." News flash, dipshit, WWII was 72 fucking years ago. GET OVER IT. I don't care if your father fought in the war. I don't care if YOU fought in the war. Is Japan ISIS? No. So keep it to yourself and shut up.
Takuma Sato races just as hard as everyone else. He's every bit as deserving of winning the Indy 500 as anyone else. Frei apologized, but it was an empty, hollow apology. The damage was done and Frei was fired. And personally, I saw good riddance.
Hey Terry, just so you know, there are American soldiers that died during OTHER wars where we fought OTHER enemies outside of Japan. Memorial Day also honors them. You might want to keep that in mind when making scumbag comments from here on out.

Takume Sato is taking our jobs
Lulz
Anyone who uses free speech arguments to allow racist people to spout bollocks is dumb and part of the problem.
True freedom is just as oppressive as a dictatorship. If we can all do and say what we want , you have criminality lawlessness and some system where the strong can just bendover the weak. There are always control in everything we do.
There has to be reasonability and common sense in everything. If someone is uncomfortable with a Japanese person winning it's racist. You are happy with them losing but not winning? With no further commentary such as the Japanese winning everything , or a very active and healthy rivalry with the Japanese its plain racist.
Well, that's an opinion, and you're entitled to it. Other people might hold opinions like "People listening to rock music are dumb", "Chelsea FC fans are stupid", or "red-haired women are demented". None of these are valid arguments. But,...
Read moreYes, it's wrong. Yes, it's idiotic. But: Somebody losing his job for voicing his personal opinion is much, much, worse. Nobody got harmed by his words. Yet, now his existence is destroyed for his non-conformist beliefs. That's the very definition of an oppressive dictatorship. That creates a culture of fear to say anything. Is it really so hard to accept the existence of views different to your own? Is it really necessary to root out all deviant opinions?
Also: No, this is not racism. Racism means a) to believe there are different human races, and b) one/some of them are superior to others. To say, "it makes me uncomfortable to see a German musician play in Tel Aviv on Holocaust Remembrance Day, or "... to see a British Tennis player winning a tournament in Mumbai on Indian Independence Day" (to use fictional, but comparable examples) is NOT racist. It might be wrong, as those examples prove a new spirit of peace, but not racist. It must be allowed to feel uncomfortable.
Btw, there were times when a journalist would get fired for using words like "idiotic", "dipshit", &c. Have you ever heard about a possible distinction between reporting and commenting? (On the other hand, Pravda and Der Stürmer would love to hire you.)
It's where he voiced it, as a representative of a media company, when you say things in the public domain you are representing that company, and they have every right to fire you if you have caused them negative press. Just as a shop assistant...
Read moreFree speech just means that the government won't lock you up for what you say, not that someone has to give you a platform to air your views.
He's lost his job, not been placed in prison.
What a numpty. Hope the door didn't hit him too hard on the way out. So I guess he had no problems with Honda supplying a big chunk of the engines then?
Evidentially this man never heard of the 442nd Infantry Regiment! Japanese American Soldiers that fought on the US side in WWII! What a dip shit!
Most awarded military unit of all time.
I miss typed by the way. It should be 442nd. I fixed it! I love the edit mode!!
