DEVIOUS STANG Roars to Life

After months of shakedown and finish work Devious Stang is almost ready for her close up Mr. DeMille.

DEVIOUS STANG, the little sister of ‘Vicious Stang’ has a surplus of younger sibling drama - it's like she has something to prove to the bigger kids. 632 horsepower doesn’t sound outrageous, until you learn that the quoted number is “at the wheels” and her engine is really making closer to 800 horsepower at the crankshaft. She weighs just over 3200 pounds.

Dyno pull at 8000 rpm to 632 horsepower at the wheels!

Comparing Devious to her bigger sister really isn’t a fair fight. Vicious has a HP/LB ratio of 46.87. In the history of the automobile there have only been a handful of road cars, or even race cars with a higher ratio. Only four cars are in the ‘over 50 percent’ club (cars that have more than one HP for every 2 pounds of vehicle weight): the Hennessey Venom GT2, the ’71 McLaren M8F and ’72 M20 race cars, and the much-anticipated SSC Tuatara. The McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail tops out at 44.61!

Vicious pulled 1003 horsepower at the rear wheels on the dyno – at 70% throttle and the lowest boost setting. "1500 hp ‘easy’ at the crank" says the builder.

Devious is in some pretty good company herself. With a 24.61 horsepower to weight ratio her nearest competitors include the 2006 Bugatti Veyron (23.71), the Porsche 918 Spyder (24.53) and the Pagani Huayra (24.83). The Ferrari 458 Speciale, which many consider to be one of the best sports cars ever made has a ratio that doesn’t even crack the 20 mark.

Understated? Does the spoiler give it away? Or, do the enormous Forgeline wheels and Toyo rubber hint at what’s under the hood?

Devious offers super car performance with air conditioning, Bluetooth audio, cruise control, a six-speed manual transmission and full harness and cage. Running on a DSE Alluma-Frame suspension front and rear with massive Brembo six piston calipers on 15-inch carbon ceramic brakes, her road manners are said to be ‘comfortable’, ‘quiet’ and ‘pleasurable’ – not what one might expect to hear.

On a rally, or just a spirited drive with friends this view must be very common for the other drivers. Very few cars match the raw performance of Devious.

    • It really is a very pretty car in person. There was a lot of smoke in the air from all the fires in California - that's why the drone footage looks like it has a sepia wash. I'll do more proper photography when the smoke clears and after Devious is...

    • I'm not really a muscle fan, but this car is changing my mind. I can't wait to drive it and do a proper review! Hopefully within the next month or so we can get it out on the road and do some proper tests. What do you want to see in a full review?
