Dezzi Invitational Time Attack

The annual Dezzi Invitational was as epic as ever. A time-attack that never dissapoints.

The Dezzi Invitational is an invite only time-attack event that takes place at Dezzi Raceway, in Port Shepstone, on the south coast of South Africa, for the past few years now.

Each year the event seems to just attract better and bigger cars and this year was no different, with some properly mad cars competing. The event takes place over two days, with the first day being qualifying and practice and then the second day consisting of more stages of qualifying and finally the coveted top 10 shootout.

There is a few different groups/classes for this event ranging from mild to very wild, but basically there's no specific rules when you get to the highest group of cars, where anything goes. Basically the more crazy, extreme and ludicrous your car is the better. Crazy horsepower, massive aero, racing slicks, tyre warmers etc are all allowed.

The variety of cars here are really awesome. Any racing event these days will obviously have at least a few R35 GT-Rs and here it was the same, with one of them being a fully stripped out one, with way over 1000HP and some rather large aero. A full time-attack spec Nissan S13 200SX also had its first race outing and was really awesome to watch. It wasn't one of the fastest cars there, but being its first race, I believe they still have a lot of race development to do. Two really awesome Porsches were also there, spitting flames on almost every corner. One of them being a really special 993 GT2R. If you ever saw a car that was in your face though, it would be the DTM styled Mercedes. If it's chrome paint job and super wide bodykit doesn't catch your attention, the supercharged V8 sure will!

Although the entire weekend was pretty action packed, it all came down to the previously mentioned top 10 shootout, which made all the times of the weekend obsolete, as these were the only ones that really counted. That one chance to give it everything you and your car has, to fight for that top spot.

When the hammer was laid down this is how the top 10 panned out below. It was super intense, with a few close calls as well and the winners were definitely well deserved. From 10th to 1st:

Jaki Scheckter - Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo - 1st Place - 1:12.394

Jaki Scheckter - Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo - 1st Place - 1:12.394

Yes that's correct. That gorgeous Huracan Super Trofeo took the win, besting the 2nd place Honda powered Lotus Exige by more than a second! If that's not crazy enough, the lambo driver Jaki, did that time on the same lap that he almost lost the car and had some sideways action. So a sub 1:12 lap was definitely possible!

What a power trio if there ever was one. Which of the three race cars would you choose if you had a choice?
