Did Kendrick Lamar Just Destroy A Lamborghini Live On Stage?

What is going on?!

During last night’s BRITs Awards Ceremony, American rap artist Kendrick Lamar won International Male Solo Artist for his new album ‘Damn’, and performed a mash-up of two of its songs, ‘Feel’ and ‘New Freezer’.

Whilst he put in a stellar performance, one particular part of his time on stage will inevitably catch the eye of the petrolhead viewer.

We see Kendrick, standing on top of a massive glass tank, inside which is an orange Lamborghini Murcielago. Kendrick is no stranger to extravagant and luxurious symbols in his live performances and music videos, so this is no surprise – it’s also great motoring eye candy.

Hang on, what’s this? An accomplice, inside the tank, begins smashing the car’s windscreen and front end with a baseball bat, and continues to do so for the rest of the performance.

As it turns out, it wasn’t actually a Murcielago – it was a £20,000 replica. And it was, of course, part of a wholly noble and profound philosophical message about materialism and the state of society (although it’s hard to tell, given how much of the audio is censored).

But, still.

At the end of the performance, host Jack Whitehall announced that the car had ‘just been left here from one of the Top Gear live shows’. Brilliant.

He continued: ‘Tragically, I have to inform you that Richard Hammond was still in it’.

Whoops.

The full clip of Lamar’s performance is available on The Sun’s website. If you have a UK TV licence, you can watch the entire BRITs Awards Ceremony on the ITV Hub.

  • My review of a £20,000 Lamborghini Murcielago replica:

Sleek. Flamboyant. Orange.* It looks like a Murcielago, but only costs a fraction of the price. The question everyone is asking is - does it drive like one?

With 0 bhp, 0 lb-ft of torque, no drive train, no electrical system, and no place for a driver to sit, the answer is, shockingly, no.

Despite being quite light without.... internal parts, in a drag race against limestone erosion, the Murcielago lost. 0-60 mph times are still being recorded, but estimates are "infinity." It does not corner well, because it can't move. Our tame racing driver has been standing near it making fast car noises for 3 weeks and still hasn't completed a lap.

This car is a total disappointment, and deserves to be smashed on stage by an extra in a rap routine.

For £20,000, you'd be better off buying a new freezer for your house. If you need personal transportation for your money, consider a horse.

    • Excellent review. Except that it's orange, not yellow. Everything else is accurate.

  • I’m sorry, but rap artist boycotting materialism is hypocritical considering that all of them are about the bling. Soooo.....

  • I thought it was a real used Lamborghini they were destroying. Who makes these replicas they look so close to the actual car it's based on.
