Did Mercedes Just Leak Footage Of The 800 Horsepower GT 73?

Mercedes-AMG has made an electrifying start to 2020

The Mercedes AMG team waved goodbye to 2019 in the best possible way - with a cracking video celebrating their performance and milestones. But if you watch until the end, some pretty special footage can be seen.

With the words "We define the future of performance" overlaid on the screen, we are shown footage of a camouflaged AMG 4 door prototype disappearing into the distance, with only the whirr of an electric motor as the soundtrack. First shown as a prototype way back in 2017, it's very likely that AMG just teased out new footage of their flagship GT 73.

The production version of the AMG GT Concept is expected to make 805 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbo, 4.0 liter V8 driving the rear axle, and an electric motor driving the front axle. This should be enough for the GT 73 to sprint to 60 mph from a standing start in well under 3 seconds.

AMG are reportedly resurrecting the '73' nameplate with the sole intention of claiming the crown of the quickest, and most powerful 4-door production sedan of all time. All eyes are currently fixed on the Geneva Auto Show in March, where a full unveiling is likely to take place.
