Diecast Details: Ferrari F430 Scuderia
A closer look at this 1:18 scale Ferrari youngtimer classic from Hot Wheels Elite
When Hot Wheels held the coveted Ferrari license to exclusively manufacture the model cars for the famous marque, they took full advantage. Up until 2015, the only scale Ferrari's you could buy were made by Mattel. There were several quality levels of the Hot Wheels 1:18 line, and the upper echelon were dubbed "Elite". Real mesh grilles, fabric seat belts, and photo etched badges were some of the features an Elite model would bring to your shelf.
The best part about this model though, is how it came to my collection. I was working at a clothing and apparel store all through college, and each year around Christmas time they would stock some sort of toys and gifts in hopes to take a few more dollars out of their holiday shoppers' wallets. I hadn't bought myself a car model for a couple years at the time, but I couldn't resist looking through the table of heavily discounted, overstock special 1:18 diecast cars. This F430 caught my eye and thanks to my employee discount it came home with me after a grand total of $16. It would take a while after college for me to get back into collecting models, but I'm glad I grabbed this one when I did.
This Elite model can fetch as much as $300 now! I'm really glad I held on to it through the years, since I've obviously done some serious collecting since then. It's a prized piece on my display shelf now and just like its full sized counterparts, every car has its own story.
