A year ago, I wrote a blog post about Dominic Martinez and his journey to Formula Drift. At the end of last years' drift season, he had spent a lot of seat time at local drift events throughout Northern CA, from Stockton to Sonoma and Thunderhill. He had the fortune of getting one-on-one coaching and mentorship from Formula-D Pro-1 driver, Matt Field, along with a father who not only supported, but encouraged and fueled his desire to drive.

Dom and his father (Eric) were excited to head into the 2016 season, having been given the green light by Formula Drift for Dom to compete in the Pro-Am circuit, they had to face challenges with different tracks not feeling comfortable with Dom driving in the competitive events (insurance liability). They were able to get some seat time in, but in order for them to compete, they had to leave California.
I did this video for Dom and Eric at one of the events they drove, at Thunderhill Raceway, showing off the new ride and getting some seat time to acclimate to the increased horsepower over the previous build. (copy/paste link to get it to open) www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6z-17bc7As
Dom faced some challenges in his venture into the drift series outside CA, but learned some lessons, got some great seat time and experience, and refined his techniques even further. It's been a while since I've been able to see him on the track, but I'm looking forward to what he does for 2017!
