Don Schumacher Racing Teams Up With Graphic Finishing Partners
A look at how DSR keeps their race cars looking sharp
Don Schumacher Racing is one team in the NHRA that is constantly rolling out new, specialty and one off schemes on their race cars and when you have the largest team in the NHRA with Top Fuel Dragsters and Factory Stock Showdown Dodge Challenger Drag Paks, it can be a tall order.
Thanks to their recent partnership with Graphic Finishing Partners, they have way to not only keep up with the demand, but do it flawlessly. DSR recently took delivery of a GFP 363TH, a state of the art laminator.
DSR Art Director Aaron Holland had this to say about the GFP 363TH, "The GFP 363TH has the features that we need to produce the best looking wraps in the sport. Specifically, both the heat option and the core-to-core option that the GFP 363TH provides have been a game changer for us.
"The heated laminating option eliminates air bubbles in the wraps. Core-to-core laminating allows us to print large products without having the vinyl pile up on the floor. Vinyl doesn't 'walk' when laminating our wraps, meaning, when you're laminating a large roll of vinyl, the vinyl tends to move to one side or another if it isn’t properly aligned at the beginning. Some machines don’t keep the vinyl and laminate aligned when laminating and it causes problems. Thanks to our new partnership with GFP, we don’t have to worry about that.”
In 2019 DSR estimated they campaigned more than 30 different schemes across their Top Fuel Dragsters, Funny Cars and Factory Stock Showdown cars. Printed 63 wraps overall including branding the organizations trucks and trailers and completing outside projects for competing race teams.
Manger Partner at GFP, Mitch Noble had this to say about the partnership, "GFP is happy to be chosen as the official Finishing Partner for the DSR graphics team. Our products have been used by leading race teams nationwide to produce vehicle graphics for over 11 years. We look forward to seeing the creative wrap designs from the DSR team at dragstrips and on car haulers all over the nation.”
Since the announcement last month that the NHRA would resume the 2020 season the GFP 363TH has been churning out vinyl around the clock for DSR including the epic Hellcat Redeye schemes run by Leah Pruett and Matt Hagan and Tony Schumacher's co-sponsored Okuma/Sandvik Coromant dragster which will hit the track for the first time at the upcoming US Nationals, September 4th-6th.
