Doodle of the day: a quick sketch of something I make no secret of wanting to be able to do: properly control a car as it drifts its way around a corner - although in this instance this being a late 1930s V16 Autounion in full Donnington Grand Prix attack mode - I would defer to its driver Bernd Rosemeyer. Such skill and bravery to balance a car on the limit of its grip - constantly adjusting its cornering line by the accelerator pedal as much as the steering wheel. What a wonderful feeling to get it right - I would love to have a go. What a mess though if it all goes wrong. History is full of racers who pushed too far, who lost control and for whom the results were tragic. That delicate balance exists throughout life - and is felt especially when it seems circumstances are beyond our control. When plans fail, or are put on hold, when we are having to wait, when things in life just seem to be moving too fast. It’s unnerving, frustrating, anxiety provoking. Now I am not going to suggest that following Jesus takes all that away. It doesn’t. It actually involves a giving up of that control we otherwise hold on to so desperately. But my experience is that peace is found, even in those scariest moments - somehow. Things don’t magically disappear (though I sometimes wish they would) - but there is a sense that we are not alone, that even when we have no control - someone else does - and that someone is love divine. Whether you have faith or not - prayers for you if you feel things are out of control for you this morning. May you know peace, hope, and the love of someone who I believe will not leave you to face it alone. #autounion #silverarrows #drifting_car #blessings #scribblingvicar
