Drift king is back: the Toyota GR 86 is here
Toyota claims the “essential fun-to-drive” character of the GT86 has been retained
Ladies and gentlemen, the Toyota GT86's successor is here - say hello to the GR 86.
I know what you are thinking, why has Toyota changed the name of the car? Toyota has changed from GT86 to GR 86 so that this car joins the GR Supra and GR Yaris under the 'GR' nameplate.
The GR 86 has a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine that produces 232 horsepower and 250Nm of torque. As a result, the GR 86 can reach 60mph in 6.3 seconds - 1.1 seconds more quickly than the car is succeeds.
Toyota has increased torsional rigidity by 50% and worked on the engine so that it provides "smooth, stress-free sensations from low to high rpms." What's more, Toyota has said that they have retained the “essential fun-to-drive” character of the GT86.
The front fascia looks more aggressive thanks to the new grille and it also has new LED headlights. That's not all as the GR 86 has better aerodynamics and a double-wishbone suspension.
Inside you will find GR badging on the steering wheel, new seat upholstery and an eight-inch infotainment system. The dials on the digital driver display look quite cool.
As many of you might know, the GR 86 has an identical sibling named the BRZ and Toyota has used the EyeSight Driver Assist Technology of the latter in this.
Those 18-inch wheels look awesome and suit the car perfectly
The GR 86 is set to go on sale in Japan in the autumn while Toyota hasn't commented on when it will be unveiled in Europe, North America and the UK.

Can they just make one car and call it Toyobaru BRZ 86 and spare us the choice? Like the 911 and the iPhone used to be - you get to the dealer, there's only one model and you just pick a colour 👀😊

The 86 looks much better than the BRZ.
It's only the front bumper and the badge that differ, silly...
So? Changing the bumper is the biggest change you can make to a cars look.
I would take the Subaru.
Despite the new BMWupra and the GR Yaris. The brand "Toyota" conjures up too many images off Taxis, The Antiques Roadshow, Radio 2 and Worthers Original.
Subaru still says Colin Mcrae and Richard Burns.
Hmm, brand image wise you can make your choice. Subaru does have the heritage on its side
Me too. Although Toyota says Sainz, too, but this being a boxer, somehow the car itself goes better in my book as Subaru.
Someone's probably now making a very cool MF Ghost render of this GT86
We should have gotten an MF Ghost TV/ONA adaptation by now.
I'm still waiting for it, while trying not to rot
Looks awesome and thank god it’s not an average BMW.
Except these days, we've yapped so much about the A90 Supra that the Z4 just kinda-sorta faded into the background as "that car the Supra is based on". I don't think the car can shed that meme, but the meme itself is already too low a fruit that...
