Driver tries to remove fuel from her tank with a vacuum cleaner

Some people have great ideas. Some people have bad ideas. This one was not a genius approach.

Filling up a diesel car with petrol is not great, but we all make mistakes, right? If you realize your mistake before even starting the car, that's great! Now all you have to do is let a professional drain your tank, fill it up with diesel again and you're good to go.

That would be the best solution. Or is there an even better way? One that doesn't involve other people who could laugh at your mistake? Sure, you can fix it yourself - if you know what you're doing...

Well, a driver in Eschborn, Germany obviously went with the latter solution. After filling up her diesel-powered VW Passat with petrol, she came up with a brilliant plan. Together with a young passer-by, she pushed the car to the nearby vacuum cleaner at the petrol station. They put one end of a garden hose in the fuel tank and tried to use the vacuum cleaner to suck the petrol out of the diesel tank. Brilliant - if the fumes of the fuel hadn't caught fire, burned the hand of the young helper and set fire to the car and the vacuum cleaner.

The car and the vacuum cleaner were fully destroyed in the process. Damage costs are estimated to be around 30,000 €.

Looking at the pictures, they are lucky that they hadn't set fire to the entire petrol station in the process. That could have been catastrophic!

However, I think this would have been a strong contender for the Darwin awards, do you agree?

  • Her theory was actually spot on.. just forgot to account for fuel vapour.. heat.. and being a combustible product 🀣

I could still see this happening in the grand tour somehow πŸ€”
