Queenstown Sergeant Blair Duffy confirmed to media that an Australian man had been summonsed to appear before the court with charges of careless driving.
The 65-year-old was treated for a suspected broken thumb after the crash. He is due in Queenstown District Court on Monday morning.

McLaren's Epic New Zealand Tour Organizers were quick to cover the F1, while its minders attempted to stop people taking photos and video until the car was later towed away.
The car from Victoria, Australia, was taking part in the inaugural Epic New Zealand Road Tour, which pays homage to the brand's Kiwi founder Bruce McLaren and had been involved in a minor incident with a bollard earlier in the scratching the paint and bodywork.
