DriveTribe Car of the Year 2017 – The People's Choice – Hosted by Speed Machines

It's the big end-of-year event - and YOU get to decide who wins!

2y ago

It's that time of year again, love it or loathe it. Tinsel adorning every orifice in sight, the sound of bells jingling and the feel of festivities rippling through the air, and the queues in shops growing ever longer with the sound of coughing becoming more and more frequent.

Christmas of course is a time of great reflection, which is one of the reasons why people either love it or loathe it. But if there's little to no joy in looking back on your own existence, then it'd be prudent of you to focus on reflecting over the past automotive year – because it's been an absolute cracker (no pun intended).

From my perspective at least, there is no better way to celebrate a year of motoring excellence than to amalgamate all the contenders into a single blog, and have you – the people – decide which is your car of the year 2017.

"But Angelo", I hear you cry, "it wouldn't be very fair to stick the little Volkswagen Up GTi in the same competition as the Mercedes AMG Project-One!". And you'd be very right. Which is precisely why I have segregated all of the year's great machinery into a number of categories, akin to what you’d see at the Oscars. Apt really, because what you’ll be seeing here genuinely is automotive Hollywood, putting the “cars” into “Oscars”. All that’s missing, as far as I can tell, is a string of sexual assault accusations, a lugubrious hashtag that’s supposed to signify bravery and solidarity, and the media excusing the heinous actions of those who conveniently decide to come out of the closet at the precise moment their crimes are discovered.

The cars you're about to see are all the performance cars (that I can recall) that've been unveiled or updated in 2017. Out of the 71 cars listed below, some of them might not be in production at the moment - but if the motoring public first set eyes on them this year, then they qualify for this competition. I can't guarantee that I haven't forgotten any as I am just one person working on this alone while trying to maintain something resembling a life. If I have forgotten any, then I can only apologise, but I do believe all the main unveilings - and plenty more besides - are here. The winners will be announced on Wednesday the 20th of December, so you have plenty of time to get voting for your favourites. From now until then, the power is in your hands. So, without any more faffing around, here are the cars competing in their respective categories for DriveTribe's *unofficial* Car of the Year 2017!!

  • Really good work Angelo!!!

But i think is missing "our" little POCKET ROCKETS: Abarth 595 - Abarth 695 Biposto

Let me know if it was purposely or just a oversight

    • Thanks a lot mate :). I did research the 595, 595 Competizione, and the 695 when making this blog, and at the time, my research found that the latest examples of each were unveiled in 2016 - hence making them illegible. Having just looked into...

    • There's the 695 Rivale that is burn in the 2017! Anyway, it's definitely not a problem eheh I'm just an Abarth fan that was searching for the brand in the contest. I really liked it and I've voted for every category (for Pocket Rockets I chose...

  • I had to make a difficult decision between the Perfromante, the GT2 RS and the 720S. WHAT IS THIS FORM OF TORTURE?!

  • I loved this! Really good idea doing it this way. One thing it has impressed on me is the amount of amazing cars that came out this year. Two things though - isn't the new Vantage technically 2018 and should the Centenario be here?

    • Thanks a lot mate, and thanks for reposting it :). I know, it's quite extraordinary when it's set out like this. As I said at the start: it'd be very easy to form a dream garage just from cars unveiled this year. The reason I didn't include the...
