DriveTribe community race car of the year winner - VW I.D. R Pikes Peak
A total of 8 different race cars were nominated for the first inaugural DriveTribe community race car of the year award. From the small Toyota Yaris WRC to the enourmous BMW M8 GTE. But there can only be one winner and that is the VW I.D. R Pikes Peak.
680 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque made it go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.25 seconds and, more importantly, win the 2018 Pikes Peak international hillclimb obliterating the track record in the process.
A few months later it won the Goodwood Festival of Speed final shootout with a time of 43.86 seconds making it the third fastest car ever to tackle the Goodwood hillclimb.
The VW won this award with 26.2% of votes. Second place is shared between the two Le Mans racers, The LMP1 Toyota TS050 and BMW M8 GTE. The lowest step of the podium is also shared between the Toyota Yaris WRC and Mercedes AMG W09 EQ Power+ F1 car. The latter of which winning the unofficial "longest name" award.
It's perhaps a sign of the future as DriveTribe's favourite race car of the year is fully electric.
