Drivetribe Creators Awards 2019: Best luxury car
The entire concept of the luxury car has remained simple and unchanged since the early days of motoring. They are the very best car makers can make and offer and as such will always be important. So important actually that we came up with an entire award that's almost as prestigious as the cars themselves. Here are the nominations:
1. Rolls-Royce Cullinan
Rolls-Royce has always been known for making some of the most luxurious and prestigious cars in the world, and you can't go more prestigious than a Rolls-Royce off-roader. The Cullinan is Rolls-Royce's way of showing to the rest of the "lesser" car makers how to make a proper SUV. Big, bold and full of leather and technology, now you can take the Rolls-Royce experience with you to the countryside, if you dare...
2. Mercedes-Maybach S650
Maybach is a name not many knew about up until the early part of the 21st century, but it's their loss really as they made some of the most opulent cars at a time when most people barely had a Ford Model T, and that DNA is clearly visible on the current crop of Maybachs. The S650 is not trying to hide the fact it's better than the rest, and it might just be right..
3. BMW 7 Series
Listen, we know about the grille. Love it or hate it it's up to you, but as for the rest of the car BMW has done a great job at finally making something that can possibly conquer the all mighty S Class. The 7 Series was always a good luxury car but now it can quite possibly be the very best.
4. Cadillac XT6
Once upon a time the name Cadillac was synonymous with some of the best cars on the market, but for quite some time now the brand has suffered from poor cars and ever poorer sales. The XT6 though is the brand's attempt at an all new luxury SUV, effectively replacing the Escalade and being better than it in every single way. A strong look and technology that puts the rest to shame, the XT6 is one to beat. It's also a 7 seater so every family member can enjoy.
5. McLaren GT
We know and love McLaren for its crazy sportscars and filling-rattling hypercars. But here's a McLaren that has luxury in mind. This is a sheep in wolf's clothing, so while you will reach Monte Carlo while still looking crisp after a very long drive, its performance will make sure that you'll also get there long before anyone else.
6. BMW M8 Gran Coupe
Another BMW on the list but this time things are a bit different. While the 7 Series is designed for you to sit back and relax while your driver is doing his duty, the M8 Gran Coupe is designed for you to drive it viciously to your destination. Two quite similar cars but two very different philosophies..
7. Bentley Flying Spur
After being saved by the VW Group, Bentley has been let free to make cars to their own distinctive luxury standards and the new Flying Spur is no exception. It's a car that combines incredible driving dynamics for its size yet oozes quality and class. It is a true Bentley after all.
8. BMW X7
The X7 is BMW's entry to the very high end SUV market. It's imposing, has more technology than the Space Shuttle and can still fit the whole family. Family friendly luxury? Who can resist that?
These cars then are the cream of the crop. You can't go bigger or grander than that, and as such all of these cars are terrific. But only one can be the luxury car of the year, and that's where you come in. Vote in the poll below for our DriveTribe Creator's luxury car of the year!
