Drum Roll Please! The fastest 4-Door Saloon in History is…

We all know that James May hates, and I mean hates, the Nürburgring track! But for most of the automotive world, it is still the zenith of test tracks and the lap times hold the most meaning to die-hard petrol heads.

There are a lot of different records held at the track, based on the different types of vehicles that test themselves around the course. Motorcycles, production road-legal vehicles, non-road-legal race cars, etc. For many of us mere mortals, while it may be fun to consider the phenomenal lap times that F1 racers and hyper-cars such as the Porsche 918 Spyder can achieve, we are highly unlikely to ever own such a vehicle ourselves. However, a production 4-door saloon… that’s something we could actually get our hands on!

Recently, the track record for a 4-door saloon going around the Nürburgring was smashed by a whopping 11-seconds, completing the lap in just 7 minutes 21.23 seconds! And surprise, surprise! It was the Jaguar XE Project 8!

Earlier this year, Jaguar announced the 2018 Jaguar XE SV Project 8; a 592 horsepower supercharged version of the XE, capable of going from zero-to-60-mph in just 3.3 seconds!

Many people had thought that when Jaguar had decided to produce its most powerful car in the history of the company, that it would use the bite-the-back-of-your-hand-beautiful F-Type as its base. However, true car junkies knew that the XE had arguably one of the best undercarriages available anywhere. There are super-cars that are jealous of the suspension and handling available in the Jaguar XE!

You can find my previous article on the Jaguar XE here:

With this new track record and only 300 Jaguar XE Project 8 cars being produced in total, they are bound to be a great investment as their value will only go up in the future. However, it will cost you a pretty penny to get into that game as each car will set you back at least $192,000.00 U.S. dollars. Assuming you can even get one.

But if you are a little more budget conscious, like the author of this article, you can buy a regular Jaguar XE starting at $34,900.00. This is what I did, and I can tell you that it is a fantastic car!

Plus, it doesn’t hurt any that I can tell my buddy with his $150,000.00 4-door saloon that my car is the one that holds the record as the fastest around the Nürburgring track! Of course, I may accidentally leave out the part about the Project 8 engine being 2.5 times more powerful than my regular XE… Shhhh! Let’s just keep that as our little secret! OK?

Keep driving sober my friends!
