A software update for Teslas could include various classic video games, it has been revealed.

That is according to Tesla CEO and founder, Elon Musk, who recently tweeted that he wants to include a number of video games in the forthcoming version 9.0 update, which is said to be four weeks away.

Musk has so far hinted at three games ─ Pole Position, Missile Command and Tempest ─ will make the cut first, each from the famous 80s gaming system, Atari.

Given that Musk mentions the official Atari in a later tweet, it appears the company could be officially onboard, which means other games could (and likely will) be added at a later date. The likes of Dig Dug, Ms Pac-Man and Food Fight.

Although free, Pole Position could end up being a very expensive game to play. Because Musk says you can steer the car in-game using the Tesla's actual steering wheel (while stationary), which is likely to ruin many a front tyre by way of dry steering.

Also said to be included in the v9.0 update is a mode called 'party & camper', which is designed to let certain systems to remain active for 48 hours while the car is parked up. Got to keep that beer cold and stereo pumping somehow, eh?

Tesla reported record sales at its latest earnings call, suggesting that, despite Musk's Twitter ridiculous and unnecessary outbursts, the electric vehicle dream is coming to fruition.

  • This really isn't a car it's a iPhone on wheels

    • That’s so true. I feel like it appeals more to people who care about software and code rather than actual driving enthusiasts. It’s very fast but it lacks the soul of a ICE car.

  • Driving this thing is so boring that they had to include ancient videogames to kill the boredom

  • Is this Elon Musk’s solution to fix the lack of involvement in Tesla cars? Might actually be more interesting than driving the car itself.
