Elon Musk promises that you can sleep in a Tesla by 2020 - on the move
Ah, lovely Elon Musk, the world's answer to the question "Which billionaire is the nuttiest of them all?" goes to Elon Musk. But even with his meme-filled twitter and flying cars into outer space, he seems to be making waves of late. Never mind him making all the Tesla patents free for everyone to use, he has started talking about the near future with that growing issue again - autonomous driving.
This time, he really means it. He has promised that the full self-driving feature with 100% autonomous capabilities will be finished by the end of 2019 - then used in Telsas by some time in 2020. This means you could fall asleep on a long journey and wake up at your destination - still in one piece.
“I think we will be ‘feature-complete’ on full self-driving this year, meaning the car will be able to find you in a parking lot, pick you up, take you all the way to your destination without an intervention this year,” Musk said during a podcast interview with ARK Invest.
We have already seen major moves towards fully autonomous vehicles, with the 'enhanced autopilot' features you can get with Tesla cars - Lane assist, knowing motorway turn offs and planning out where to charge up next on your drive. But Elon did say that nothing is ever 100% perfect.
He urges strongly with Tesla customers, even with the updated technology, to still drive safely with the observations and sensible demeanour - so don't be a fool and mess with robots is what he is saying... anyone getting terminator vibes from this, or is it just me?
I'm gonna get the tin foil out, just in case.
