Euro NASCAR: Deodhar ends 2021 season on a difficult note at Vallelunga

The Indian showed good pace again but did not have the luck.

India's Advait Deodhar completed his 2021 Euro NASCAR campaign this past weekend, racing at the Vallelunga in Italy, in the Euro NASCAR 2 category, driving the #56 CAAL Racing Ford Mustang. He started the weekend, finishing third and seventh in the two practice sessions.

The Qualifying didn't go as per plans for Deodhar as a clutch issue kept him only 13th in the standings. The Race 1 saw the Indian on a charge after he moved up to 10th in the opening few laps. He then passed the ninth placed car in the right-hander.

The battle continued on as he was soon behind the sixth placed car leading a pack. He was in a three-wide tussle at one point but taking a left-hander, he went straight to the second gear which sent him to a spin. His race was over as he was towed away from the scene.

The Race 2 saw a good start from Deodhar to be seventh in the early part, but not for long. A problem forced him to pit at the end of the third lap as he retired from the race. With no points scored, the Indian dropped to 12th in the drivers' standings with 318 points - where two low results were cancelled out from his tally.

"End of the most difficult racing season I’ve ever had," said Deodhar. "It just wasn’t meant to be this year due to constant streaks of unfortunate events on and off track. I had 5 DNFs out of 12 races in which 2 of them were at the final where each race is double points.

"Mechanical issues and a few incidents on track were out of my control. There were some big positives though, with 2 pole positions, 1 win and 2 podiums. Proof of what what could have been. Overall, it’s been a very difficult year which I can only learn from but also one which I hope to forget. I’m a man on a mission and want my redemption next year."
