Euro NASCAR: Deodhar salvages a Top 5 finish after difficult Croatia weekend

The Indian is still in Top 5 of the drivers' standings.

India's Advait Deodhar continued his 2021 Euro NASCAR campaign this past weekend, racing at the Automotodrom Grobnik in Croatia, in the Euro NASCAR 2 category, driving the #56 CAAL Racing Ford Mustang.

It was a wet start as he finished 14th and 10th in the two practice sessions, significantly off the front pack. The Qualifying, though, was an improvement as he ended up sixth in the order. It was a steady start for Deodhar, but he lost a place off the line to be seventh in the early stages.

He dropped back to ninth at one stage, but fought back through. He gained a place after penalty to Euro NASCAR 2 title rival, whom he kept at bay on the finish line. Before that, Deodhar passed another car on the final lap to finish fifth, salvaging good points.

The Race 2, though, wasn't an ideal start for Deodhar, as he dropped out of Top 10 in early stages. He struggled through the race for pace to end up only 14th. He fought hard and defended 13th mostly, but lost out towards the end - which was bad for his title hopes.

With two rounds to go, Deodhar sits fifth in the standings with 231 points, one point behind the fourth-placed driver, but crucially 64 behind the points leader.
