When a driver is getting ready to race, I don't believe in doing anything to get their attention, hell I'm a big enough unit that I can't be missed anyway! But I do love a good eye contact shot. They do say the windows are the eyes to the soul!

Kneeling straight in front of the car blocks the drivers line of sight to the first corner which no doubt they are already lining up to figure out how they can get ahead of their rivals. So how to get the shot? Patience. Everyone eventually looks around. When a driver is getting ready to race, I don't believe in doing anything to get their attention, hell I'm a big enough unit that I can't be missed anyway! Unfortunately this sometimes means kneeling just to the left or right of a car on a hot race surface for up to a minute or two however the end result is always worth it, in that fraction of a second when eye contact is made and the shutter is pressed you can get a sense of that drivers mood.

Almost always it is determination. What sort of photos do you like to see from the grid?
