F1 Miami GP race date confirmed
The inaugural Miami Grand Prix in 2022 has a date finally confirmed on the Formula 1 calendar.
Next season's first-ever Miami Grand Prix will take place on the 8th of May using the traditional format of FP1 and FP2 on Friday 6th May, FP3 and Qualifying on Saturday 7th and the all important Grand Prix on Sunday.
Note the absence of the Sprint Qualifying format, which should only be in use at several events in 2022.
Ever since the arrival of Liberty Media at the helm of F1, efforts to secure a second race in the USA, alongside COTA, in the same season have been in full swing. With Indianapolis Motor Speedway coming into the frame as an emergency round towards the back end of the 2021 season, it's possible 2022 could see three rounds in the States.

Miami was always the preferred option right from the get go for Formula 1.
"We’ve worked hard to create a track with great racing and a venue with unparalleled fan experiences," states Tom Garfinkel, Miami Grand Prix Managing Partner.
"There has been tremendous enthusiasm and anticipation for this event, and we’re happy to be able to announce the date so that people can start planning for it."
The brand new hybrid street circuit - named the Miami International Autodrome - weaves its way around the Hard Rock Stadium site with the final layout announced some time ago. The layers of smooth asphalt has been layed and finalised. In the coming weeks, the innovative range of ticketing and hospitality options will be unveiled.
"There is no doubt in my mind that the Formula 1 community and the sport’s fan-base worldwide are going to be amazed by what they see next May," said CEO of the Miami Grand Prix, Richard Cregan.
"The circuit construction is progressing in line with expectations, and now that we have our date confirmed with Formula 1, we can rapidly follow up with revealing more of the detail of the experience that will be enjoyed trackside which will make this a truly stand-out addition to the calendar. This location is already well known for creating unforgettable experiences for events like the Super Bowl and Miami Open. We look forward to embracing an entirely new global sporting occasion."
