Three-time Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda is back in hospital in his native Austria, suffering complications from flu.

Austria’s Oesterreich news site reports that the 69-year-old Lauda — who underwent a lung transplant last August — was flown to a hospital in Vienna from the Spanish island of Ibiza. Although Oesterreich cites sources as saying that Lauda is intensive care, it said he could be released from hospital later this week once his condition is stabilized.

Lauda, whose epic battle with James Hunt for the 1976 F1 title was recreated for the 2013 motion picture “Rush,” has held the role of Non-Executive Chairman of the board of Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd since 2013 and holds a 10% stake in the Mercedes’ F1 team. In a video message to the team and fans in November, he said he hoped to have recovered sufficiently from his transplant surgery to rejoin the team for the 2019 F1 opener in Australia in March.
