Over the years Formula One has changed dramatically with regulations, restrictions, racing, teams, tracks and of course, engines. But which engine sounded the best - V12, V10, V8 or V6?

From the earlier days you had the V12. A great big beast with 12 cylinders, 48 valves and a deep, throaty soundtrack that was more of a rumble than a screamer. Unfortunately the V12 will never return to Formula One as stated by Jean Todt - president of the FIA in a recent interview.

After the V12 teams moved towards the V10. Arguably the best sounding engine, in my opinion anyway, the distinctive V10 scream made for a beautiful symphony that could be heard from miles away. Like the V12, Jean Todt has stated that the V10 will never be a part of Formula One again.

Taking another downsize to the V8 from the V10, unlike the larger engines, the V8 hasn't been ruled out to make a return to Formula One... maybe... we hope. The last generation before the dull sounding hybrid systems we have now.

Now we have the eco-friendly 1.6 litre turbo-charged V6 era. They sound like somebody has stepped on one of those squeaky children's toy every time they shift down the gears. It's depressing but it's reality. Please change it. Please.
