F2 News: HWA signs Nannini and Deledda for 2021

Elsewhere, Armstrong switches to DAMS for his second F2 season.

“It will be my first year in F2. I know it will not be easy, but I am willing to learn as much as possible."

Matteo Nannini

HWA RACELAB have announced an all-Italian driver line-up for the 2021 Formula 2 campaign as they sign 2020 Formula 3 racers Matteo Nannini and Alessio Deledda.

Nannini will compete in both F2 and F3 this season with HWA, who are keen to ensure that the Italian progresses as much as possible. It's sure to be a gruelling schedule but one that Nannini is looking forward to.

Nannini is the nephew of Formula 1 Grand Prix winner Alessandro Nannini, and claimed a podium in his rookie season of F3, finishing third in Barcelona's Sprint Race last year.

Deledda meanwhile, has spent the past two seasons driving for Campos Racing in Formula 3 and will now make the step up to F2 with the German team for his rookie season.

The Italian racer started his career on two-wheels before switching to Formula racing, where he took part in Italian Formula 4. He also has experience in Formula Renault Eurocup and at the Macau Grand Prix.

The new drivers will get behind the wheel for HWA at pre-season testing in Bahrain, which is set to take place at the start of March.

“We are aiming for the title."

Marcus Armstrong

Further down the paddock, DAMS have confirmed that Marcus Armstrong will be joining them for the upcoming season and both he and the team have high hopes for 2021, aiming for the title.

Armstrong excelled at the start of the 2020 season, taking two podiums in the first four races. However, he then went six rounds without a single point. The Kiwi did finish the season in solid form though, taking a further four points’ finishes in the final four rounds.

Armstrong then took part in a productive testing debut with DAMS in the December post-season tests in Bahrain, which has ultimately led to the team signing him.
