F3 Asia: Gowda scores more points for MSport Asia at Buriram in Round 2
Akash Gowda eked out more points in Round 2 of 2019 FIA F3 Asia Championship at Chang International Circuit in Buriram for Armaan Ebrahim-led MSport Asia outfit. Gowda started the weekend with ninth place finish in the lone practice session.
He finished 11th in Qualifying 1 for Race 1 and qualified in the same position for Race 3 in Qualifying 2 in his #33 car. Like many others, his lap times were deleted too for exceeding track limits but it was only in Qualifying 1.
It was a steady start for Gowda in Race 1 on Saturday as he stood his ground in the opening few laps and gained a place after a spin for a rival. He ended up 10th eventually but time penalties to two of his rivals helped him gain two more place to be eighth in the end.
At the front, the two Hitech GP drivers ruled the race as Ukyo Sasahara led Red Bull junior Jack Doohan with Absolute Racing's Daniel Cao was a distant third to complete the podium positions.
The second race on Sunday morning was another steady run from Gowda, who started 10th and finished in the same position to eke out another points result. It was the same Top 3 at the front but Doohan won from Sasahara and Cao.
The final race saw Gowda lose a place at the start to be 12th where he finished eventually as it ended up being a tough end to the second round after points in the first two races. Sasahara was back in front from Doohan with BlackArts Racing's Brendon Leitch in third.
With two rounds in the books, Sasahara leads the drivers' standings while Gowda sits 12th with 11 points.
