A glimpse at what may have been for the greats we lost too soon
Motor racing may be an inherently dangerous sport, but that doesn't make it any easier to stomach the moments when drivers are unfortunately caught up in accidents. They're even harder to come to terms with when the worst happens, and someone dies out on track.
From pre-war racing legends like Bernd Rosemeyer, to F1 greats such as Ronnie Peterson and potential future world champions like rallying's Henri Toivonen, the annals of motorsport history are filled with drivers who were cruelly robbed from us way too soon.
But what if they had survived their fateful accidents? To get a glimpse at what could have been, we ran some photos of racing drivers who died early through the image manipulator FaceApp, to gain an idea of what some of the sport's most iconic figures may have looked like if their lives hadn't been cut so tragically short
