Fancy a 1000hp car? This Chevy Camaro could fit the bill
Dodge Demon. You remember this car, don’t you? Of course, you will! A production car capable of beating a Buggati Chiron in a 0-100kph race. All thanks to its satanic 840hp engine. But then, came the Hennessey Exorcist - a Chevy Camaro ZL1 putting out a diabolical 1000 hp!
I believe these were the two cars that started this insane horsepower race and now, there’s another participant. Welcome everyone to the 2020 Yenko/SC Camaro - a muscle car producing 1000hp. The world has absolutely gone insane!
The tuning company behind this deranged creation is called Specialty Vehicle Engineering. Their job is pretty similar to other tuning companies - take a standard car, crank up the engine, improve the brakes/wheels/suspension to handle the uprated power (Hennessey left this part with the Exorcist) and voila! You have yourself a hypercar beating muscle car!
What SVE have done here, is taken a 2020 version of the Chevrolet Camaro SS (with the 1LE option), upgraded the displacement of its standard LT1 V-8 engine from 6.2-litres to 6.8 and slap on a supercharger as well because ‘if it ain’t big, it ain’t American’...
Achieving the magical figure of 1000hp ain’t that easy. SVE also had to work on the aluminium engine block by putting in - forged-steel crankshaft, forged aluminium pistons, high-flow cylinder heads, upgraded fuel system and injectors, 10 per cent larger throttle body, custom stainless steel long tube headers and higher capacity high and low-pressure fuel system. And, to top it off or rather I say, put on a cherry on it - 1000HP Supercharged badges on the supercharger.
Other novelty items include a custom stainless steel exhaust system along with a switch for selecting between softer or louder exhaust notes. You get retro-styled 5-spoke wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. A body-coloured carbon fibre hood along with an exposed carbon fibre scoop comes as standard.
The interiors won’t see much of an upgrade apart from Yenko embroidery on the floor mats and door sill plates. What can make you feel special is a small plaque inside featuring the build number of that respective model as SVE plans to make just 50 of these unhinged muscle cars.
Prices for this Yenko Camaro package will set you back by $68,995, plus the obvious cost of the donor car. To distinguish this insanity from the standard version, the Yenko package further includes hood stripes and side graphics with customers having an option to choose from nine different colours for them. Not to forget, the obvious Yenko badging will also be installed to complete the proper, retro, American muscle car look of the 60s and 70s. Oh, and did I mention that it comes with a manual transmission only?
However, with eco-awareness on the rise, Prius-friendly California will be one state where this Yenko Camaro will not be sold as the car didn’t pass the state’s stringent emissions test. Do you want some tissue papers, Californians?
Other than that, especially American muscle car lovers, if your neighbour just bought a hypercar and challenges you for a race with an obvious smirk, I suggest you get yourself a Camaro and then this package (available via regular Chevrolet dealers) and whoop his……...
