FCA Document Suggests 368-HP Turbo 4-Cylinder For JL Wrangler

There's a chance you'll be able to get a small yet powerful engine in your new off-roader.

In a document posted and published on jlwranglerforums.com, an NHTSA (National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration) document submitted by FCA appears to make the claim that the 2018 JL Wrangler will feature a 368-hp turbo 4-cylinder engine.

The base Pentastar V6 remains, though updated, making an unchanged 285 hp. Also worth noting is that the JL will initially only be offered in "4 door open body" form, with the 2-door model following in February.

What's your opinion? Are today's turbos worthy of being featured in the iconic off-roader that is the Jeep Wrangler?

  • There are some doubts that FCA could release 368 horses out of a 4 cylinders 2 liter engine, but if they do, this will definitely be a star... more than the Pentastar. Let's hope it's true, and let's also hope that in their rush to add more horses they don't forget that it needs to be reliable as well.
