Ferrari 250 GTO Replica Driven by Tom Cruise in 'Vanilla Sky' is up for sale

£90,000 doesn't seem too bad...

If you're a Ferrari fan and a Tom Cruise fan, then you are not going to want to miss out on this Mecum Auction. This was the very car used in the 2001 film, Vanilla Sky featuring Tom Cruise. It is a well known fact that it was a replica, but a good one.

This 1962 'Ferrari' was built by the Italian car specialist, Joe Alphabet but was more commonly known as the 'Alpha One GTO Coupe', doesn't sound as good does it? It is powered by a small block Chevrolet V8 and has a GM automatic gearbox. So, it is a real American muscle car just with Italian styling.

Included with this purchase is the Alpha One body brochure, a certified signed photo of Tom Cruise with Penelope Cruz and the Paramount picture press kit. A total of just 36 examples were ever made to allow homologation into the FIA Group 3 Grand Touring Car category. This very car was recently restored back in 2007 to make it as new as possible.

This 'Ferrari 250 GTO' is set to sell for between $85,000 and $95,000 (£70,000 - £78,000). Or you can put it this way. Either buy a fully specced Porsche 718 Boxster S or a replica Ferrari once driven by Tom Cruise.

  • It’s just a fake Fezza, people.

  • The design is stunning, but the problem is ''chevy small block with automatic gearbox'', it'll be perfect if it was a v12 with manual gearbox

  • Both are cool cars but for that kind of money I would rather have a 993-era 911.
