A stunning 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona once owned by musician Sir Elton John is set to go under the hammer at the upcoming Silverstone Classic Sale.

Billed as the fastest road car in the world in its day, this example was delivered new on the 3rd August 1972. It's a matching numbers car is one of only 158 genuine right-hand drive vehicles supplied, finished in Rosso Chiaro with a black interior, just as it left the factory.

Early registration info identifies famous Ferrari enthusiast Elton John as the recorded owner and keeper of the car from 1973-1975. It is believed that Sir Elton purchased the Daytona off the back of the success of his famed album ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’. The last private collector owned the car for 16 years, garaging and maintaining the vehicle regardless of cost.

The Daytona has a powerful V12 engine that's paired with a 5-speed gearbox. It fires instantly into life and produces a very respectable 352bhp. It is capable of reaching a top speed of 175mph.

The classic Ferrari currently has 81,675 miles on the clock and it's expected to fetch between £525,000 to £575,000 when it goes under the gavel at Silverstone Auctions sale at the Silverstone Classic motoring festival.
