Ferrari announces more powerful Portofino M with 612hp, costing $30,000 more
The Portofino has finally been upgraded with a more powerful variant
The Ferraro Portofino has never been the fastest most powerful Ferrar in the Italian companies line-up. In fact, it has been the one which people often tend to dismiss, but this has just changed with the introduction of the 'Portofino M'.
The Portofino M (standing for Modificata, used historically by the brand to designate an evolution in performance) showcases a host of new features but more importantly, more power. The M has been upgraded to 612hp from the Portofino's original 592hp which may not seem like much but is a fair boost.
As well as more power, the Portofino M also brings an uprated powertrain, chassis and increased tech. But the most significant upgrade is its brand eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox which replaces the old seven-speed.
This new gearbox features a 20% smaller clutch and offers 35% more torque than the old unit. The extra power and eighth gear means the Portofino M can cut its 0-62mph time from 3.5sec to 3.45sec. There's a more significant 1 second improvement to the 0-124mph time which is now down to 9.8sec.
In addition to this, the Portofino M also comes with the full five-position manettino driving mode switch from its bigger brothers, replacing the three-mode switch from the standard model. This means it now gets a Race mode, and who doesn't love that?
Othere than that, not much else has been added, but the things you should really care about is the power, gearbox and added driving modes. But is this worth the roughly £24,000 premium over the standard Portofino? Possibly, but $243,000 (£188,000) is still a hell of a lot compared to its competition.
