Spotted lurking in the car park of the Daytona International Speedway at its recent Finali Mondiali, Ferrari has now revealed details of its latest bespoke one-off, the SP 275 RW Competizione.

It’s built on the chassis of the F12 Berlinetta but equipped with the more powerful V12 engine and gearbox from the limited-edition F12 TDF. That means the naturally aspirated 6.3-litre V12 produces 769bhp instead of 730bhp, and the dual-clutch ‘box features six percent shorter gear ratios along with 30 percent faster upshifts and 40 percent faster downshifts. Presumably sticking with the standard F12 chassis also stops Ferrari annoying the 799 customers who don’t want an 800th F12 TDF on the market, while the new owner prefers to do without the TDF's rear-steering system in exchange for the F12 Berlinetta’s more intuitive on and over the limit behaviour.

Coming out of Ferrari's exclusive Special Projects division (you have to be invited into the programme, and then it takes a coupe of years to see your unique car through to fruition) the SP 275 RW Competizione and its ilk shouldn't be confused with the likes of the recently revealed Ferrari J50 or 2014’s F60 America. Ten of each of those were made, to respectively celebrate 50 years of flogging Fezza’s in Japan, and 60 years of sales in America, but they’re common compared to the likes of this car, and the stunning 458 MM Speciale, a recent one-off built on the chassis and running gear of the 458 Speciale.

The SP 275 RW Competizione has been created following a collaboration between Ferrari’s own Styling Centre and Italian design house Pininfarina (though we have seen other projects, like the 458 MM Speciale, wholly created in-house by Ferrari). The 275 GTB, a gorgeous front-engined V12 from the ‘60s (see below) has been the inspiration for this latest creation. All the vents littering the bespoke bodywork – including the new three-quarter panels instead of F12’s glass quarterlights – are obvious shared traits, but more understated is the wider rear track, sleeker headlights, subtle bonnet bulge and unique forged 20in wheels.

Other detailed changes include a milled aluminium fuel filler cap, apparently inspired by the 275 GTB run by Ecurie Francorchamps team that won the GT category in the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, and came third overall behind the winning Ferrari 250 LM. That same 275 GTB endurance racer also lends its yellow paint scheme to this new car, while inside there are matching highlights including a yellow stripe down the top of the instrument cluster and around the top of the steering wheel.

  • I started a drivetribe called "Meet Your Heroes" after hearing Henry utter this phrase in various EVO videos.. it's about stories when you actually get to drive your dream cars. I hope he sees this as he was the inspiration for it.

  • It's a very pretty car. Interested to see if any of the design cues on this make it onto the F12M due in a couple of months?
