Ferrari reveal the SF1000: Could this be the car to topple Mercedes?
Ferrari have become the first team to reveal their 2020 F1 car, proudly displaying the SF1000; the machine the iconic Scuderia hope will knock Mercedes from the F1 throne.
A spectacular show from the beautiful Romolo Valli Theatre in Reggio Emilia, Italy opened with a concert. A full orchestra of strings, pianos and brass opened the ceremony before the roars of modern day race cars were faded in over the quite epic theme music.
Ferrari testing stalwart Marc Gené then took to the stage to lead proceedings.
Who said the art of the car reveal was dead?
Anyway, the car! The SF1000 looks much the same as the race-winning SF90 from 2019 that Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel drove to second in the constructors championship, scoring nine poles and three wins along the way.
The car marks an important year for Ferrari. Not only is a championship challenge long overdue, but ahead of the 2021 rule changes it marks a final opportunity to claim a title before the Formula One playing field becomes more level than ever.
The Scuderia will also celebrate their 1000th Grand Prix in 2020, hence the SF1000 name.
The cars look to be wearing a more retro styled number font as well to cast minds back to the history of Ferrari, who have entered nearly every single Formula One Grand Prix to date.
What will 2020 hold for Ferrari? Resurgence? Or will the SF1000 once again play second fiddle to a pair of Silver Arrows?
