Brendon Leigh dropped a bombshell this afternoon by signing for his former team's Mercedes biggest rivals, Ferrari. The 2017 and 2018 F1 Esports Pro series champion struggled to defend his title in 2019 finishing 5th in the standings before a lowly 6th in 2020.

After a winless 2020 and only 2 podiums Leigh has decided to switch teams to join Ferrari. According to 'The Race' Leigh will move to Italy full time in order to become completely involved into the Ferrari set-up and Marco Matassa, team principal of Ferrari’s Esports team, has said they are 'pinning their hopes on him delivering more title success' alongside a pretty straightforward statement of intent saying “The FDA Esports Team has decided to pin its hopes on the most successful driver in the history of the F1 Esports Series."

Leigh weighed in on his move, stating “My excitement in joining the FDA Esports F1 team is off the scale, I’ve only just signed, but it’s already clear to me that their passion and commitment to winning mirrors my own. "

Partnering Leigh for the upcoming season is the 2019 World Champion David Tonizza with a lot of fans now claiming the Italian outfit as the favourites for the title this year as the team now has arguably the strongest line-up on the grid.

Marco Matassa also shared this sentiment, saying “Brendon Leigh has won the title twice and represents a unique combination of youth and experience and brings the right abilities to our team to tackle the upcoming challenges alongside David Tonizza. I’m sure that with this impressive line-up, we can once again fight for the Drivers’ title and also try and win the Team prize for the first time. "
