Finally We Know Why Jeeps Don't Have V8s

From the President of Jeep himself.

The Jeep Gladiator debuted to the acclaim of jeep and truck enthusiasts across the world. Jeep was able to grant the wishes of so many but still couldn't give us a V8. But why? Why can't jeep give us a V8?

Well according to the interview with Jeep President Tom Kuniskis at 12:50 in the below video, they tried but ran into a problem.

Jeep knows what you want. They know you want a wrangler with a hemi, 6-Speed Manual, and rocket launchers but some things are simply not in the cards.

As it turns out the Jeep Gladiator and JL Wrangler can fit a Hemi but crash testing was the stopping point. With a big V8 in the engine bay the crumple zones were simply too small.

Luckily Jeep did more research and found what a Jeep really needs is torque. Luckily they're going to offer a 3.0-liter V6 Diesel that produces 440 lb-ft of torque.

  • You can always go to the aftermarket if you want a V8. I saw one the other day with a 6.2L hemi in it.
