The first prototype for the legendary Lancia 037 Rally will go on sale at RM Sotheby’s on June 15th 2021.
The car, identified by chassis SE037-001, differs from both the Stradale and the racing models in the wheels, the rear lights (taken from the Ferrari 308) and other details, highlighting the various steps taken during its development process.

The 037 was born from the teamwork of Lancia, Pininfarina, Dallara and Abarth; it was first sketched in 1981, then homologated for the World Rally Championship in Group B by April 1982. In 1983 the 037 became the last two-wheel drive car to ever win a WRC title.
Besides undergoing drivetrain and aerodynamic testing, this prototype has been the first one to be driven on gravel and also served as a reconnaissance car for the 1982 Acropolis Rally in Greece. The SE037-001 was returned to Abarth at the conclusion of the development program and was slated for demolition. Fortunately, its original development engineer, Sergio Limone, purchased the car and meticulously restored it to its 1981 original prototype configuration.
The SE037-001 prototype goes up for auction complete with the FIVA card, the Certificato di Identità issued by Lancia, and extensive documentation of its history as the first development prototype.
