Five Brands that are peaking right now!
We look through rose tinted glasses at some brands in the past. Lancia, Maserati or Mini springs to mind. But some brands are hitting the top now!
I, like anyone, love looking back at old brands and thinking 'Wow! They were so great back then!' But this must be happening for some brands now, right? In the year 2040, I just know I will be marvelling over the M2 CS, E63S, 4C or Supra Mk5. Beyond individual models, some whole companies are doing swimmingly, and this article is my top five!
I am by no means a muscle car fanboy myself. However, Dodge really is hitting the spot right now. As companies downsize and electrify their range, Dodge has been busy putting a 700bhp muscle car V8 in a saloon car, SUV and Jeep! The styling is kick ass, the engine lazy and powerful and the attitude menacing. If we see a Chrysler Pacifica Hellcat in the next year I will probably cry. Dodge's place on this list is cemented!
Audi has always been the inferior German brand. While BMW, Mercedes and VW clear up the market, it has for many years been the unloved sibling. Sure, there has been the occasional iconic model (Quattro, R8, V10 RS6), but for the most part it has been the car of the company lease. Don't be too offended Audi fanboys, because I'm about to make up for that critical evaluation. Recently, Audi has been leaping ahead. The newest generation of cars look way better than their rivals, and inside bridge BMW quality with Merc showiness. While the RS5 may have been a bit of a failure, the rest of the range is highly desirable and classy!
What has Koenigsegg achieved recently? Well, while SSC is obscured with fraud, Bugatti retains VW's sensibleness and Hennessy probably won't ever get the car to market, Christian's brand has...
Built a 600bhp camless inline-3 engine.
Made a 2+2 GT Car that can do 247mph.
Made the first combustion engined car that can do 0-60 in under 2 seconds.
Yes, I am team Segg, debate me in the comments if you need. I think that's all I need to say to justify Koenigsegg's place on this list!
I completely understand why people may not agree with this one, but let me argue the case. Peugeot has gone from a period of making terrible cars for terrible people to producing a range of stylish, award-winning SUVs, hatchbacks and saloons. They've also made an electric hatchback with class-leading range, and a 508 performance saloon which I very much find myself needing. Sure, they no longer make rally heroes, but I think they now tie with Ford in the unofficial 'fun family brand' category!
10 years ago, McLaren first 'new-age' car was launched, the MP4-12C.
Just a decade later, they have the Sports Series, GT Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series, many of which come with Racing and Longtail variants. Their base car will outperform Ferrari's top one (Artura vs SF90) and they now do not sell a car that does 0-60 in over 3 seconds. They are usable and outstanding and the 720S is the only supercar you could drive everyday (if it works). Sure, things may get a bit burny from time to time, but McLaren is pushing the edge of physics, and I'm all here for it!
Thanks for reading my article! I hope you enjoyed it and drop any other brands you think apply or your opinions on these in the comments!
