Florida man pursues his stolen Lamborghini Urus in a scooter … and catches it!

Perhaps the Urus isn't as impressive as Lamborghini make it out to be?

Thieves can either be the most tactically astute humans on earth, or have the same IQ as a potato - there's no in between. Either way, it's always heart warming when they're brought to justice, and the stolen goods returned: especially one that has a price tag of $200,000. This was the situation that Floridian man Chris Sander found himself in as he was relaxing at home.

He heard a thunderous clap emanating from his driveway, and saw his V8-powered Lamborghini Urus creeping away. Speaking to WSVN, Sander said: “I’m in my home. I hear this thing start up. I look out the window, and I see somebody driving it away. I got on the scooter, went after the guy.” And in fact, it was his lightning-quick reactions that got him his luxury SUV back. Here's the clip:

The robber was identified as 14-year-old Andre Kalinine, a boy who has reportedly rubbed shoulders with the law before. As Mr Sanders chased down his vehicle, he eventually saw it parked on a sidewalk a few roads away from his home. Emerging from the car, a terrified Kalinine asked Sanders for advice about dealing with the repercussions of his escapade.

Sanders continued: “He said, ‘I stole a Lamborghini just now. I don’t have a license. I can’t drive.' I didn’t know if he had a weapon. I wasn’t sure how crazy he was. I was trying to talk and calm him down. He asked me for advice. He’s like, ‘I’m 14. I don’t know what to do.’ You’re better off turning yourself in. They’re going to go much, much easier on you.”

This is a terrific example of human kindness, and Sanders' reaction in this situation seems all the more heroic considering a police officer was stationed at the other side of the street with a gun pointing right at Sanders and Kalinine, who appeared in front of a judge the following day. I for one am glad that the boy has learnt a valuable lesson from this, after all, we've all been mischievous at some point in our youth!

  • Imagine stealing a car and then remembering you don’t know how to drive 🤦‍♂️

    As for the thief…

Does that mean he isn’t coming on then?

  • I would like to think I would react in a similar fashion. Nobody was hurt. The vehicle is fine. The boy is scared and sorry for what he did. Lesson learned. As far as the law goes that's a different story. I would hope they go easy on him. I'm sure the prosecutor spoke with the owner.

    • Same here. Thankfully, everything was alright, and that boy learned his lesson. I hope too that they go easy on the kid.

    • Knowing our legal system he'll probably lose half his life or more

  • There has got to be more to this story. Either keys were in the car, the fob was close enough to allow it to start, or the 14 year old is running around with some pretty illegal tech. Assuming the Lambo had flappy paddle, how would a 14 year old even know how to get it going. And the judge acting like stealing supercars is pretty normal 14 year old mischief, though the fact that it sounds like he got off with no more than a slap on the wrist in an American court is the most believable part of the story.

    • Right? I am scratching my head trying to understand how a 14yo started a modern vehicle that most certainly has a few passive anti-theft features. I think the kid might’ve realized what he started was not going to end well and chose to play the...
