Focus RS mk1, the next fast Ford to become a future classic?
I'm bringing you down to earth from the Ford Mustang GT500 reveal with part 6 of the Future classic? -series
Ford has created many rally legends since the late 60's most of them being Escorts. The road going versions of the forest road conquering machines have gone up in value and, in some rare cases, reached six-figured sums. Therefore it may be safe to assume that the Escort's replacement, the Focus, will have the same monetary success.

This might be a bit on the modern side for a classic, but I think in the correct hands it will go up in value slowly but surely. Low mileage, good maintenance and original parts will be the key to keeping up the value of a mk1 RS. The first Focus RS will be a classic mostly because of its heritage, lineage and the fast Focuses that has come after it. Different Escorts have already reached the classic reputation such as the mk1 Escort RS 1600 and mk2 RS 2000, not to mention the famous Cosworth badged Escort from the 90's. The first fast Focus though was a bit of disappointment. It was called the ST170 and was not what people wanted. The 212 horsepower turbocharged Focus RS with custom and unique engine parts was the show. Around 4500 flamboyant RS's were built during only a one year period.
The Focus RS's that came after the first one have been huge successes stories and reached big media attention. Some even bought a brand new Focus RS500 just to store it and hope that it will make them some money. The RS badge has a prominent history for nearly 60 years now so go out and buy the first Ford Focus to wear it while it still is affordable.
